Slicey the Pig comes to life

Oct 27, 2012

One of the highlights of the Halloween season is the entire Archie McPhee store staff dressing up in different costumes for an entire week leading up to (and including) Halloween itself. There have been many truly great costumes over the years. (You can peruse a few years’ worth via the store’s Flickr account: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and of course this year: 2012)

Halloween 2012 is still a few days away, but we’ve already seen a costume that is sure to go down in Archie McPhee history as one of the best. It’s as hilarious as it is frightening. Behold the wonder that is Dan’l dressed up as Slicey the Pig Dashboard Wiggler, the only pig who is so eager for you to taste how delicious he is, he’s already carving himself up for you:

We’ve even got video of Dan’l standing in the street in front of the store, merrily slicing away at himself for passing cars:

Many customers were creeped out and children terrified, so as far as we’re concerned, mission accomplished.

Happy Halloween! Who wants some bacon?

Shark vs. Spider

Oct 20, 2012

What do you do when you find a spider in your house? Do you leave it alone or roll up a newspaper and squash it? Do you carefully usher it out of you home? The staff here at Archie McPhee were recently presented with an arachnid dilemma when they discovered a spider had taken up residence directly in front of the lens of a security camera. Watch this video to see how they dealt with the issue, in a distinctly McPhee-ish manner:

Shana talks pop culture and bringing home the bacon

Oct 13, 2012

Rachel Tepper from The Huffington Post recently sat down with our very own Shana Iverson, High Priestess of Rubber Chickens, to discuss a few of our favorite topics, Bacon, weird candy and other food-related products, and their ever-increasing popularity in popular culture.

International Cephalopod Awareness Days

Oct 10, 2012

We’re great fans of cephalopods. (You know, octopus, cuttlefish, squid, and so on.) In fact, Archie McPhee even has a bathtub full of Finger Tentacles, including one ginormous tentacle:

So we were delighted to learn about International Cephalopod Awareness Days. October 8th through the 12th is all about celebrating cephalopods, “the most intelligent invertebrates in the world.”

What better way to celebrate these tentacular creatures than with some cephalopods and things that turn you into wonderful mutant cephalopods? Put on your Tentacle Mustache:

Then come on over to pick up some Finger Tentacles, Cthulhu Tentacles (for the more sinister cephalopod lovers), and a Tentacle Arm (because there’s no such thing as too many tentacles), grab a soothing Scalp Squid Head Massager, an Octopus Porcelain Mug for your morning coffee, and a handful of squirt cuttlefish:

(Squirt Cuttlefish are exclusive to the Archie McPhee store)

Then take it all home in a handy Hungry Squid Bag:

Follow the Cephalopod Days tumblelog to learn all sorts of interesting things about cephalopods. Use the hashtag #cephdays on any of your own tumblr posts, tweets and photos that are related to International Cephalopod Awareness Days to share them with other cephalopod fans.

Archie McPhee’s Butcher Shop of Horrors

Oct 5, 2012

At last Halloween is just around the corner. The store theme this year is “Butcher Shop of Horrors” which means there’s even more meaty goodness happening than usual. Considering how much we love meat, that’s a pretty impressive feat.

This short video will give you a taste of the freaky decorating we’ve been doing:

We are very pleased to announce that, for the third year in a row, Jordan “Zombiemaker” Speers will be on site applying free scary makeup for customers. Jordan will be working his gory magic on Saturday, Oct 27th from 1pm to 5pm. You won’t believe what he can do with fake skin, fake blood, and a few other surprisingly simple supplies:

We’ve begun selling tickets for our annual Halloween raffle. At 13 cents each, a single ticket buys you a chance to will all of this great loot:

All proceeds will go to Bat Conservation International. We’ll draw the winning ticket on Halloween, October 31st, which falls on a Wednesday this year.

Also taking place on Halloween is our 19th annual blood drive. Between 3:30pm and 6pm on Wednesday October 31st, the Puget Sound Blood Center bloodmobile will be parked in front of the store.

We want your blood! You can call the store anytime during business hours to schedule your donation in advance or just show up between 3:30 pm and 6pm. We give prizes to all our generous blood donors and, don’t worry, creepy clown Dan’l will not be drawing your blood. We leave that serious business to the professionals.

Can you tell that we really love Halloween?
