Here’s to you, J.P. Patches, Seattle’s favorite clown
Jul 23, 2012On Sunday, July 22nd our friend and favorite clown, the legendary J.P. Patches (aka Chris Wedes) passed away. Seattle was very lucky to have him, we feel privileged to have met him and we miss him (and his wonderful stories) already.

In this photo Shana, High Priestess of Rubber Chickens, perfectly sums up how we’re all feeling:

Thanks for all the laughs and memories, J.P. Patches. You were one-of-a-kind.

I grew up in British Columbia, Canada, and watched JP Patches while getting ready for school in the morning. I have never liked clowns, but never thought of JP as a “clown” in the creepy sense of the word. He was so funny, had crazy characters (Gertrude!), broke up at his own shtick, and never, EVER talked down to kids. He was the best.
Oh wow, how great to find out that he reached people well outside of Seattle. Thanks for sharing your J.P. memory.
