Celebrating International Yodelling Pickle Day

Mar 28, 2013

Tuesday March 26th was a very special day for us. It was International Yodelling Pickle Day!

To celebrate we did the traditional dance:

We also bobbed for pickles and observed the traditional “Brine in the Face” Ritual:

At midnight on the appointed day, it is customary to wake up one’s loved ones by making the pickle yodel while spitting brine at their sleeping bodies. Then, you must chant the pickle rhyme:

“It is the day of the Yodelling Pickle, a day for steadfastness, be not fickle!
One pickle, two pickle, three pickle, four.
I spit brine at my loved ones while they snore!”

As you can see, there’s never a dull moment here at Archie McPhee.

Diplomacy in action at Archie McPhee

Mar 18, 2013

Last Friday, March 15th, 2013, three journalists from Seattle’s Sister City of Tashkent, Uzbekistan visited our store.

They were in town filming a TV show about Seattle and Archie Mcphee was the second stop on their very first day in the US.

As you can see from these photos, our awesome visitors enjoyed their time at the store and we had a great time giving them the complete tour, including the amazing Glow Chamber and an up-close encounter with the unbelievably bizarre Wallingford Beast.

One of the best things about Archie Mcphee is that many of our products transcend language and culture. Watching people react to and interact with items we make and sell, no matter where they might be from, is a fascinating experience.

A good time was had by all and Archie Mcphee was delighted to participate in the diplomacy of Seattle’s Sister City Program.

Sister city greetings

Mar 11, 2013

This is (most of) the awesome staff of Archie McPhee:

(The only person missing is the inimitable Fuzz)

As you can see, we’re quite a friendly bunch, which is a good thing because this Friday, March 15th, we’ll be receiving special visitors from our sister city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. A group of Uzbek journalists will be in town filming a TV show about Seattle and Archie Mcphee is the second stop on their trip. We can’t wait to meet them!

In the 1950s Seattle helped develop and promote the formation of sister city relationships. It began in 1957 when Seattle and Kobe, Japan formed one of the very first sister city relationships. Seattle and Tashkent, Uzbekistan later became sister cities in 1973, when the latter was still part of the USSR. This was particularly meaningful because it was the first U.S.-Soviet sister city affiliation.

Googly-eyed shenanigans at ECCC

Mar 6, 2013

Emerald City Comicon was three days jam-packed with fantastic people and good times. We’ll soon be sharing photos from our time spent manning the Archie McPhee booth, but first we have to share an amazing collection of photos taken by a couple of our awesome customers:

Jenny Sparks and her husband Lars made brilliant use of a pair of our Giant Googly Eyes here in Seattle last weekend at the Emerald City Comicon.

Googly Eye Galactus

Googly Eye Batman

They mounted the Giant Googly Eyes on a stick and asked cosplayers to pose for photos with them. As you can see the results are nothing short of awesome.

Googly Eye Harley Quinn

Googly Eye Klingon

Even our own underpants-wearing squirrel got in on the action:

Believe it or not, the photos you see here are just the tip of the awesome iceberg.
